AVID: Advancement via Individual Determination

What is AVID?

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college and career readiness program that supports motivated students in taking rigorous courses and building the skills they need to succeed. Through the AVID elective, students learn organization, note-taking, public speaking, and responsibility. AVID especially supports students who may be the first in their families to attend college or who need extra guidance to achieve their goals — all within a supportive, encouraging peer environment.

What is AVID at the secondary level?

  • AVID is more than just an elective — it’s a school-wide program that helps all students prepare for college and careers.

Students in the AVID elective have the drive to go to college and are ready to work hard to get there. While taking challenging classes like Honors, AP, or Dual Enrollment, they receive extra support in AVID to help with organization, study skills, and confidence.

AVID also helps build a college-going culture, encouraging high expectations, motivation, and opportunity for all students.
